How does our human right to fresh food intersect with the apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people?

At DCF, it's our mission to provide our community with access to as much free food as possible. Some folks have wondered why we are posting and supporting a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the liberation of all Palestinians and their land.
We believe that our right to food is holistically bound with Palestine's right to exist, to their ancestral lands, to their culture, and to live autonomously from the Israeli settler state. We believe that food liberation is just one small part of our collective liberation, freedom from all oppression, whether that be in the shape of fascist regimes, apartheid, food apartheid, imperialism, white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and any form of hindering a person or being from their right to exist and thrive in their body and community. We stand for an alternative where every being has the support and safety to exist in a world of abundance, not one of scarcity, not a life of fear and displacement. We love our Durham community, and we stand in deep solidarity with the Palestinian people, and anyone who faces oppression, no matter the scale. |
